DICE and EA have released a new, minute-long vehicle trailer for the upcoming Battlefield 3. And, when we say “upcoming,” we mean “almost here.” Battlefield 3 will be releasing for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 25th, just over one week from today.
The vehicular glory above reminds us a bit of what it means to be great with planes in the Battlefield franchise. Hand the controls over to a new player for the first time, and they’ll almost always want to rush towards the plane. It’s natural, it’s flight, it always looks like a blast. Then they hop in the jet, climb into the sky and stay airborne for a whopping 15 seconds.
If it’s a helicopter they’re trying out for the first time, let’s assume that they survive for maybe 8 seconds.
Flight in Battlefield is meant to be tough. It’s a game of balance, and that means that it’s genuinely difficult for one player to take to the sky and score 30 kills against one team. That kind of stuff rarely happens in the series. In other multiplayer shooters, however, flying and driving is a quick ticket to kill streaks and rewards.
We love DICE for keeping vehicular combat tough, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
