Weekly Gaming Poll: When will the next gen consoles arrive?

Welcome to this brand-spankin’-new TechnoBuffalo feature we’re going to try and run once every week. We’ve got ourselves an outstanding, talkative community and we’re looking to harness that and spur it along with a weekly debate topic.

So, every Friday, I’ll toss up a debatable challenge, you folks will vote and discuss. I’ll also be posting the results of the previous week’s poll with a little editorialization on the results.

Another weekend, another poll. This week I’ll be asking you about when you think the next console generation will begin. There are some exceptions and exclusions with the question, so be sure to read the full article before you run to your nearest shed and grab your pitchforks.

But, before we get to the poll, here are the question and results from last week…

Wow. We really couldn’t have asked for a closer split than the one we got between the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Sure, I recognize that both consoles are popular amongst our readers, but the Xbox 360 dominated the PlayStation 3 early on in the arena of sales; realize, a lot of that comes from the fact that the 360 had a year long head start.

Still, to see you folks so perfectly spread between the platforms is just, well, in a nerdy way, neat.

I suspect a lot more than roughly %6 of those who voted also own Wiis; however, the question doesn’t ask which platforms you own, but which platforms are for you. For a lot of gamers, unfortunately for Nintendo, the Wii is sitting below the TV collecting dust more often than playing games. Bummer, we know, but that’s the truth.

Finally, PC gamers… strong representation. I will say that I expected a lot more of a presence on the poll, given the fact that so many of our commenters slather love all over the PC gaming platform constantly. It might just be that you lot are particularly outspoken, which, honestly, we love.

Don’t ever change.

This week’s question!

When will the next console generation begin?

Now, before you start telling me “the Wii U comes out next year, idiot,” let’s accept, together, that the Wii U is a stop-gap (a great line from Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox) between this generation and the next for Nintendo. I’m not knocking the console, you’ll actually find me in the herd of supporters. That said, the machine will supposedly sport graphics that won’t be too much better than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It doesn’t mark Nintendo’s entry into the future, as far as “next gener-y” goes, it just marks their step into today.

So, now that that’s out of the way, when can we expect the next generation consoles to release?
