Minecraft Getting Dragons

See a brighter version of this image at the base of this post.

Or, to be more precise, Enderdragons.

Markus “Notch” Persson, the game’s creator and developer at Mojang, Tweeted a screenshot and some information regarding the upcoming mob. Before he got to that, however, he Tweeted one simple line of seemingly jumbled text: “raqreqentba.” The folks at Reddit put it through ROT13 decryption and found out it spelled “enderdragon.”

One Redditor, cptqwashi, took a stab at what, exactly, the Enderdragon was. Here’s what he offered:

“Perhaps the new dimension will be called ender , and will be the home to the mysterious endermen and deadly enderdragons … [sic]”

Notch responded in the same Reddit thread and indicated that cptqwashi was “100% correct.” We will see a new, Ender dimension along with Enderdragons.

The screenshot you see above is an early and un-textured version of the Enderdragon. Notch wound up dishing a bit of information regarding the screenshot and the mob’s progress. We’ve just run them below in chronological order:

Our internet connection is very, VERY slow, so uploading images takes ages. But here’s the progress so far:http://i.imgur.com/xj6us.jpg

I started tweaking some code. Model parts can now contain child model parts! Minecraft is almost becoming a modern game. 😀

And texturing this dragon is going to be.. interesting.. I’ll keep working on this way into this weekend, probably. 😀

It’s not been discussed which version of Minecraft will see the Enderdragon or the inclusion of the Ender dimension; however, we can assume it will come in the form of a pre-release sometime over the next several weeks.

This is the beauty of Minecraft, folks. The developers can add so many small things that sum up to be unique, charming additions to an otherwise wonderful experience. The game constantly evolves, and we love it for that.
