Ever since Google Earth launched for desktops back in 2005, it has allowed would-be travelers to explore the world from the comfort of their own home. Who hasn’t virtually visited Paris? Or Tokyo? Or typed in their own address, for that matter? As announced on Google’s own blog, the program has hit the one billion downloads mark, sending those stricken with wanderlust soaring over ancient relics, deep beneath oceans and up-close with some of the world’s top destinations. It’s a great milestone for Google that should continue to rise as features continue to be added.
