Rumors: iPhone 5/4S To Arrive 10/14, iOS 5 on 10/12

We’ve been hearing rumblings about an October release for the next iPhone, with mid-month being a highly anticipated timeframe. And now, there’s a new rumor swooping in that underscores just that: According to Japanese blog Macotakara, all systems will be go for the iPhone launch on Oct 14 for the U.S., U.K., France, Germany and Japan. The Next Web is also saying they’ve heard the same hardware release date, adding that iOS 5 could be rolled out for existing devices on Oct 12. That’s two days earlier than the hardware launch, but two days later than the Oct 10 date that previous reports suggested.

None of this is very far-fetched considering France Telecom’s CEO has already mentioned that the carrier will be getting the handset about then (specifically October 15). And there are reports that Apple is blacking out vacations for retail staff on the 14th and 15th as well.

Judging by the latest news and rumors, here’s how the timeline seems to be breaking down so far: We’ll almost certainly see the iPhone 5/4S in all its glory at the Apple media event on Tuesday, October 4th, followed by the roll-out of iOS 5 on October 12 and the actual device launch on October 14. The company will then hold a Q4 earnings call on October 18, by which time it’ll probably have some launch day numbers to brag about.

So hang tight. Whether you’re an Apple lover or hater, there’s plenty to be excited about right now. At the very least, it looks like we’ll finally get to see this long-awaited device soon, thereby ending this carnival of rumors.
