It’s no surprise to me that Samsung’s Galaxy S II is a popular smartphone. It’s undoubtedly the best Android handset — and quite possibly the best smartphone altogether — available right now. Its popularity is so great, in fact, that the device has now passed the 10 million sales mark.
Having sold five million handsets in just 85 days on the market, the Galaxy S II always looked destined for success. Its impressive list of specifications and a torrent of positive reviews have made it one of the hottest devices on the market.
JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business, said the device has enjoyed “tremendous growth” in just five months:
“Since its launch in late April 2011, the Galaxy S2 has seen continued sales success, demonstrating Samsung’s industry-leading capabilities in – and commitment to – the smartphone market.”
“In just five months the Galaxy S2 has seen tremendous growth, reflecting its tremendous popularity with customers around the world, who in selecting the Galaxy S2 as their device of choice have driven the device’s strong market position globally.”
Some of that success will undoubtedly have spawned from Apple’s decision not to launch a new iPhone back in June. Since its launch in April, the Galaxy S II has had no real competition from rival platforms, and it’s possible that sales of the device will begin to steady once we see finally see the much-anticipated fifth-generation iPhone later this year.
