Microsoft has already promised us that its new Windows Phone Mango update will launch within the “next week or two,” but those of you on AT&T now have a more definitive date, thanks to leaked emails that reveal conversations between the carrier’s employees.
If you’ve got a HTC Surround, LG Quantum or Samsung Focus (v1.3), you’re scheduled to get the Mango update on September 27, according to the email. But those of you with the HTC HD7S will have to wait until “early to mid October.”
The emails, which were sent to WPCentral, read:
Starting September 27, 2011, Microsoft has approved and is planning to release a new “Mango” update to AT&T customers using:
- HTC Surround (SKU 65212)
- LG Quantum (SKU 65205)
- Samsung Focus (SKU 65203) [More on this below]
A subsequent release is projected to be available for customers with the HTC HD7S (SKU 65255) in early to mid October. A subsequent advisory will be provided for the HTC HD7S after the MR update has successfully passed TA.
So, what if you have a Samsung Focus, but it’s a v1.4 device? You’ll have to wait, too, I’m afraid:
The Samsung team came back an provided this information about WINDOWS 7.5 for the Samsung Focus devices.
- rev 1.3(Micron): Windows 7.5 update will be available through Zune on 9/27.
- rev 1.4(LSI) : Update has not entered the AT&T SPE lab yet; however, Samsung is targeting for 10/17 lab entry and 10/31 TA
It would appear from these emails that carriers and manufacturers have had the final build of Windows Phone 7 for some time now, and AT&T has clearly completed its testing and set a release date for the new OS. It’s unclear when the update will be available for users signed up to other carriers, but we’d assume that Microsoft will be pushing to get them all out around the same time.
Will you be getting the update from AT&T on September 27, or will you have to wait another couple weeks?
