If you’ve got a smartphone, there are hundreds of applications out there that allow you to upload photos to Twitter. But what do you use if you’re one of those people who has a good old-fashioned feature phone? How do you quickly show your friends on Twitter that your cat is wearing a Kermit the Frog costume? Well, now you can upload photos to the service via SMS.
All you have to do is send a text message to Twitter like you normally would when posting a tweet, but with your photograph attached. There is a little catch, however: You’ll need to be using one of the following supported carriers for the feature to work:
- U.S.: AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Cellular South
- U.K.: Vodafone, Orange, O2
- Canada: Rogers
- Bahrain: VIVA
- Brazil: TIM
For the time being, those are the only carriers — and the only countries — that are supported, according to Twitter’s blog post. Though it does promise that it will “continue to work with more carriers to enable their customers to share photos via text message.”
Twitter has continued to improve its service for those users who like to manage their tweets via text message, and with an incredible four million users still taking advantage of Twitter via SMS each month, that’s no wonder. Recent improvements saw the introduction of a handy ‘Fast Follow’ feature, which allows anyone to receive tweets via text message — even if they don’t have a Twitter account.
