Another week, another HTC handset leak. This seems to be an all too regular occurrence for the Taiwanese smartphone giant. The latest suggests that the Rhyme won’t be the only new device to launch from HTC next month. These images are of the HTC Explorer, which was previously codenamed the HTC Pico.
The first press shot for the HTC Explorer was discovered by Pocketnow, which also lists the device’s specifications. It seems to be an entry-level Android device targeted at the budget market, with just a 600MHz processor and 512MB of RAM. It does, however, sport a 3.2-inch HVGA display, a 5-megapixel camera, and HTC Sense 3.5.
The Explorer is expected to ship in black and blue, and will likely be free when purchased through a carrier with a commitment. It is possible the device will be unveiled at HTC’s New York City event tomorrow, however, there are rumors that this event to be focused solely on U.S.-specific devices — leaving the Explorer in the dark until HTC’s October 6 event instead.
For those looking for a cheap and cheerful Android smartphone, the Explorer might just one of the best available when it launches. It is a HTC device, after all.
