Microsoft is set to become the first gaming company to showcase live online gameplay from Gears of War 3 on the Xbox 360 in TV adverts. It will air a series of 30-second ads which will showcase gamers playing the release in real-time as the clip is broadcast.
The campaign is set to begin today, but the live clips will air between September 23 and October 3, according to Brand Republic. There will be six installments of the live ads, which have been likened to those from gaming giant Paddy Power, which uses live ads to display the latest betting odds during sporting events.
Stephen McGill, Microsoft U.K.’s Xbox marketing director, said the Gears of War 3 release will be as big as Halo:
“This is going to be our biggest controller-based game campaign.
“It is on the scale of what we did for ‘Halo Reach’ and ‘Halo 3′ – television is the main centrepiece of the campaign.”
Gears of War 3 went on sale at midnight yesterday at 20,000 stores worldwide, and I’m dying to finish work so I can head out and get my mitts on a copy. I’m hoping it will keep me entertained until Modern Warfare 3 finally hits stores this November, which McGill says will be one of the biggest challenges to the latest Gears of War release, along with Battlefield 3.
Have you been enjoying some Gears of War 3 gameplay today? If you’re really lucky, you could be one of the gamers showcasing your skills with a Lancer on TV next week, but what are the chances of that happening?
