Each clip lasts around a minute, enough time for one full wave of game to occur, and then you’ll be presented with a trap choice. Select it by clicking the links in the video and proceeding to the next wave of enemies. Repeat the process to catch a glimpse of roughly ten minutes of gameplay footage and commentary.
The whole thing adds up to one of the best ways I’ve ever seen to show off a video game that’s all about choice. Orcs Must Die! is basically a mash-up of tower defense and action RPG elements. It’s being developed by Robot Entertainment, the company built out of the remains of the once Microsoft owned Ensemble Studios. Ensemble was responsible for games like Halo Wars and Age of Empires.
I played the game at PAX East earlier this year. In fact, I played the exact same level at PAX East. I actually managed to surprise the developer leading me through the demo by placing one of those spring traps so that the orcs would fire out the nearest window. It worked, and he thought it was hilarious.
