EA: Battlefield 3 will Not Outsell Modern Warfare 3

While speaking to investors, EA‘s Chief Financial Officer Eric Brown stated, point-blank, that the company does not expect Battlefield 3 to outsell Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 this holiday.

That comes despite the company’s previous track record of mudslinging towards Activision and their shooter’s future.

Quite honestly, the heads of EA and DICE would be crazy if they wholeheartedly believed that they’d be able to outsell the franchise behemoth that is Call of Duty with a single release. Brown pads his sentiment with a lot of strong reasoning, and some of that goes like this:

“Just to be clear, the [Call of Duty] franchise did about 23 million units worldwide. We don’t expect to surpass them with this year’s Battlefield 3, just to be very clear…”

Brown indicated to the investors that EA fully anticipates Battlefield 3 to outperform last year’s Battlefield: Bad Company 2 in terms of sales. Shacknews pointed out that the upcoming shooter has more than 1.25 million pre-orders, and is well on its way to beating Bad Company 2.

But, make no mistake, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be a goliath this holiday season. Whether or not you prefer its story, gameplay and multiplayer over that of the Battlefield franchise, the game will absolutely sell extremely well once it releases. It may even set its own new pack of sales records.

Brown elaborated on his stance by indicating that he believes there’s room enough in the market this year for two massive shooters:

“I think there’s going to be a lot of great choice for consumers. I think we’re going to see a lot of dual purchases as well. FPS fans, I think, are likely to purchase and play both titles to debate the merits, the pros and cons of one versus the other.”

When Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 drop for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, will you be buying both?
