Welcome, welcome, welcome to a feature we’re trying out today on TechnoBuffalo. Turns out we have a love of something a bit strange, wonderful and hilarious all at once: boxart from classic NES games.
These bad boys captured so much of what gaming and entertainment was back when they were being released. Whether it was absurd color choices, 8-bit majesty or incredibly drawn hair, the finest games in NES history feature some stellar boxart.
So we’ve created this Beloved NES Boxart art series to feature, pay tribute to and collect some of the most classic gems from Nintendo‘s software catalogue. To be clear, any publisher, developer or region goes for this collection, the games just have to be from the NES.
Mega Man has always had some of the best boxart for the Nintendo Entertainment System era. They were always, well, awkward. They often featured a weirdly dressed Asian man that rarely matched his in-game, robotic counterpart. This European version? Why is he silver? What’s with the Pokémon below him? Is that Jabun from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker?
Part of this weekly feature will be the inclusion of wallpaper versions of what you see above. They’ll come in three flavors (resolutions), but you should be able to pick one and tweak your desired size from there. Here they are
