Prepare yourselves, friends, Team Mojang has unleashed a brand new trailer for Minecraft 1.8, The Adventure Update.

This trailer places a brand new emphasis on exploration, combat, mechanics and the world’s envrionment. It begins by showing us where we’ve been in our own Minecraft worlds, but it rounds out by showing us where we’ll need to go.

This update will be massive. Only a few of the newest features are shown off in the video above, but pay attention and you’ll catch a glimpse of all the goodies headed your way. For those too lazy to view, here are some of the new bits in the trailer above:

  • Rivers
  • Deep Oceans
  • Extensive plains, desert and mountain biomes
  • New bow mechanics and animation
  • Zombies dropping rotten flesh
  • Experience orbs pouring out of downed enemies
  • Sprinting
  • Bigger drops for killing animal like cattle
  • Fence gates (!)
  • Watermelons
  • Knockback in combat
  • A whole lot more!

Our own Sean Aune detailed a bunch of the features new to this update as well during a 1.8 shot at PAX Prime the weekend of the 27th of August. Head there to catch even more changes to this independently developed, block breaking hit.

Flight and unlimited materials are coming to Minecraft‘s new creative mode. That’s right, flying and “inventory hacks” are now a perfectly legitimate part of an official game mode in Minecraft. Will that all but stop you from actually gathering your materials before starting a build?

The official release date for Minecraft 1.8 has not been announced yet. However, the release of a trailer indicates that it should be coming any day now. Notch, the game’s creator, had previously stated that the update would come soon after the unveiling at PAX Prime. That happened, this new trailer has officially dropped, you should expect the update in a matter of days.

What are you looking forward to most with this Adventure Update?
