Nintendo Set to Unveil New 3DS Software at TGS

Nintendo has announced that they will be streaming a special, pre-Tokyo Game Show event for the Nintendo 3DS on September 13th in Japan. The show is slated to start at noon on the 13th Japan time, but that translates to 11PM EST on the 12th if you live in the States.

We will be watching the stream, which may or may not be entirely in Japanese, and updating you by live blogging the event for the duration. For your viewing pleasure, the stream will be hosted on both Ustream and Nico Nico Live, a Japanese streaming service.

The company indicates, according to the red line of Japanese text directly in the center of the image above, that this will be a presentation of new goods for the Nintendo 3DS. We can expect a laundry list of new software, as far as I’m concerned, but some have said that news of this conference fuels the fire below the 3DS hardware refresh rumor.

Let’s be blunt: Nintendo made a terrible mistake by launching this system without a banner cast of supporting software from its first party catalog. They need to up the ante and roll out a ton of irresistible, Nintendo games in order to have any chance of righting the ship. The 3DS price cut helped them get on the path, I see this press conference as a chance to wow the new install base and continue towards better sales.

As more for the Nintendo 3DS pops up before this event, we’ll be on it.
