New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Trailer

The Call of Duty XP convention has officially started. With it came a brand new trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3‘s multiplayer element. The clip you see above was shown to convention patrons at the very start of the show.

With close to four minutes of montaged gameplay footage, Call of Duty fans can catch a glimpse at some of the brand new offerings dropping when this game ships. It looks like the Modern Warfare combat elements you know and love are getting re-upped and made more intense.

There’s a new metric ton of weapons, gear, perks and content added into the current Modern Warfare experience. The trailer glosses over four load-outs; pause at theĀ appropriateĀ time and read each of the streaks, perks, weapons and gear from the graphic on screen.

New to the game as evidenced by the brief moment in the trailer itself is the element of dog tags. Picking dog tags off of the dead is nothing new in the military FPS arena (Battlefield has already done this), but it does add a level of collection and trophy gathering for those that play these games almost religiously. Borrowed though it may be, this is a great addition to the addictive gameplay offerings.

The only device I’m not sold on, besides the return of the may-as-well-be-cheating heartbeat sensor, is the whacky blast shield. The last class in the trailer shows it off towards the end; he’s about to take fire from rockets, sets up this weird gizmo and viewers watch the rockets explode against an invisible shield in front of the player. What? This isn’t Halo.

The events in Modern Warfare 3 are supposed to be what happens immediately after 2, right? 2 happened in 2016, roughly five years from present day. Are we really five years away from blast shields? I mean, in a realistic sense, really?

But, hey, drivable sentry guns? Color me jazzed.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to release November 8th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Will you be picking it up?
