Samsung announced the Galaxy W last week along with three other additions to the Galaxy line up. The device is on show at IFA in Berlin later this week, but we don’t need to wait until then to see it in white, and at all angles, thanks to these leaked images obtained by Vietnamese site Mai Nguyen.
While I’ve expressed my love for white handsets before, the Galaxy W looks a little tacky to me, considering Samsung classes this a ‘high-tier’ device. It maintains that black bezel we saw in Samsung’s press images last week, and has a silver band around the top. (I don’t know why.) The back and the sides are white and look a bit, well, cheap.
The Galaxy W fits right into the middle of Samsung’s full Galaxy smartphone range, with the Galaxy M Pro below it, and the Galaxy R above it. U.K. carrier Three describes the handset as the “little brother of the increasingly popular Samsung Galaxy S II,” which is understandable when you look at its specifications:
Samsung Galaxy W Specs
- Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
- 1.4GHz processor
- 3.7-inch WVGA TFT LCD (800 x 480)
- 14.4Mbps HSPDA
- 5-megapixel camera
- Front-facing VGA camera
- Bluetooth 2.1
- Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n
- 1,500 mAh battery
With a list of specs as attractive as those, the Galaxy W is good-looking handset… in black. I just think this is one of those phones that can’t quite pull of the white look. When you look at its black counterpart, the white device seems to just do away with all of that sophistication:
What do you think? Would you buy the Galaxy W in white?
