It’s time to settle down and catch a quick glimpse of this year’s NHL offering from EA Sports. NHL 12 is the next entry in what’s becoming the best year-to-year sports franchise on the market. While it won’t be a full taste of the game, snagging the now available demo from either Xbox LIVE or the PSN (the PlayStation Store may update a bit later today, so don’t fret if you log on and don’t see the demo yet) will get you a preview of what’s to come.
New to this year’s edition are hockey legends from yesteryear. EA has slowly trickled out confirmed players in pairs since they first announced the new feature. They wrapped up their teasing with a few days ago and made Mario Lemieux and Gordie Howe official. Both are shown off in the demo along with Wayne Gretzky in the trailer up top.
You’ll be able to briefly check out the third period of the Stanley Cup Final between the Boston Bruins and the Vancouver Canucks, the new Be a Pro mode that features the ability to sim in between shifts (thank the maker), this year’s version of Hockey Ultimate Team and, possibly, some of the aforementioned legends in action.
If you’ve been a fan of the franchise for a while, this will be your opportunity to notice more of the minor adjustments. NHL 12 features things like new goalie AI, CPU anticipation AI, jostling in front of the net and an improved physics system. I feel like I’m always writing about “improved physics systems” for yearly sports titles.
If you’re serious about the NHL experience and see yourself snagging this year’s title and building your own Ultimate Team out of in-game cards, pick up the demo and play it. You’ll earn a few packs of cards for free by trying the demo and inviting friends. Yeah, be that annoying guy.
