Microsoft Teases Windows 8 Beta on New Blog

Microsoft has been keeping very quiet about its upcoming Windows 8 operating system, but with the launch of a brand new blog related to the operating system, aptly named ‘Building Windows 8‘, we could be hearing about it a lot more over the coming months. Announced yesterday, the new blog will allow developers and partners to keep track of Microsoft’s progress, and give them an opportunity to provide feedback.

The first entry on the site was written by Windows President Steven Sinofsky, who admits that Microsoft has heard “some people express frustration about how little we’ve communicated about Windows 8 so far.” In addition to posting updates on the blog, Sinofsky said that further details about the new operating system will be unveiled at the company’s BUILD conference in September:

“The next major event for Windows is our BUILD conference in September, where we will provide developers with more details about the full spectrum of tools and capabilities available to make the most of Windows 8.”

But that’s not the only thing we’ve got to look forward to: Sinofsky also teases an upcoming Windows 8 beta:

“We’ve been hard at work designing and building Windows 8, and today we want to begin an open dialog with those of you who will be trying out the pre-release version over the coming months.”

The Next Web believes that it’s now “all but certain that the public testing cycle of Windows 8 will commence in 2011,” and says that previous rumors suggesting Microsoft would release an early Windows 8 build at the BUILD conference could be correct.

Will you be looking forward to hearing more about Windows 8, and possibly getting your hands on a beta?
