The Dell Streak 5 has gone on to the gadget graveyard in the sky, at least in the United States.
The 5-inch tablet/phone hybrid seems to have tested the limits of what consumers were willing to carry in their pocket when it came to screen size, or perhaps it was just ahead of its time. When the Streak 5 launched it was marketed more as a tablet that you could make calls from, so it didn’t have the sleek lines of smartphones that allow for ease of holding to your head or carrying in a pocket. The screen seemed pretty ridiculous when it launched, but as more and more Android phones creep into that screen size territory, it just seems that maybe Dell got to the party a little early.
The writing had been on the wall for a while now that this was coming as the device had been out of stock on the company’s website for the past month or so. Apparently they finally got some stock to fulfill final orders and replacements, and then the page you see above went up. There is no word yet if this decision is global or restricted to the United States, but the company also made a fairly large push in Japan for the Streak, so it’ll be interesting to see if they have given up the fight elsewhere as well.
So long, Dell Streak 5, we’ll miss you.
