The iPhone 5 may have not been announced yet, but that hasn’t stopped Rob Shoesmith in the UK from starting to plan his time in line for the device. The marketer from the UK has started to construct plans set up a tent outside the Apple Store in London’s Covent Garden District, where he plans to hang out how ever long it takes for the new iPhone to be released.
Before you think this guy is a crazy phone fanatic – getting the iPhone is actually not his biggest goal. Being “that guy” in an Apple line has its perks, and Shoesmith has already started racking quite a few of them up. Turns out, there’s so much media attention on the first person in line that businesses are pumped about the idea of giving Shoesmith their products to use while he’s getting all that publicity.
He’s already started racking up solar chargers, a webcam and even a box of garden gnomes … and he isn’t even in line yet. He’s set up a website where he is blogging about all the stuff he gets, and his plans to make his trip in line a luxurious one, and a free one (he’s leaving all his cash at home).
What do you think? I think the fact that he’s not even sitting on the street yet and is racking up stuff is pretty impressive. Not a bad haul of stuff (even now) for just saying you plan on sitting on the street for a while.
