Time Inc. Offering Tablet Apps For 21 Magazines In 2011

Time Inc announced plans this morning to bring all 21 of its U.S. Titles to tablets by the end of the year, making it the first major U.S. Publisher to offer its entire catalog in digital form.

In addition to being available for tablets, all of the magazines will also be available as digital subscriptions (and single copy purchases) for Nook Color owners. Four titles are expected to hit the Nook later this month, with the rest coming by the end of the year.

“Now is the time for us to make this bold commitment. In the coming year, there will clearly be many more consumers using tablets, accelerating demand for content and driving advertiser interest. We are putting ourselves in a great position to take advantage of these opportunities,” said Maurice Edelson, EVP and a member of Time Inc.’s interim management committee. “Having our entire portfolio available on tablets will create a significant new digital reach for our advertisers.”

Time claims that its content and apps that are currently available have been downloaded over 11 million times. Currently it offers content from People, Time, Sports Illustrated, and Fortune. It will now add InStyle, Real Simple, and Entertainment Weekly to the mix amongst others.
