Borderlands 2 Officially Announced

Mark yesterday’s rumor from Eurogamer “100% True;” 2K Games has just officially revealed Borderlands 2 from Gearbox Software.

Game Informer magazine snagged the exclusive news and cover story for the game, which you can see above. Almost immediately following Game Informer’s reveal of next month’s Borderlands 2 feature, Take-Two Interactive sent out their own press release for the news. Borderlands 2 is set to launch some time “during Take-Two’s fiscal year 2013 beginning on April 1, 2012.”

The title will launch for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

For gamers attending PAX Prime and Gamescom later this month, Borderlands 2 will have a presence at both conventions. While the press release did not announce how the game will be presented at each show, we’re assuming it’s a bit too early to expect playable content.

Within the press release by Take-Two was a brief description of what Borderlands 2 is bringing to the table. Of course, weapons and vehicles are a highlight, but so are characters and story. Here’s the description:

Borderlands 2 is the epic sequel to the ultimate four-player Role-Playing Shooter loot fest. Combining invention and evolution, Borderlands 2 features all-new characters, skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment, which come together in an ambitiously crafted story. Players will reveal secrets, and escalate mysteries of the Borderlands universe as they adventure across the unexplored new areas of Pandora.

The core gameplay elements that made the original Borderlands so great were the multiplayer, combat and loot portions. But fans of the game will be quick to tell anyone that asks that they would have liked to see more from both the game’s characters and plot. Gearbox Software is, hopefully, focusing on those two elements to make the second game in this franchise an even better ride than the first.

We’ll have more news on Borderlands 2 as it comes. For now, consider the absurd amount of new guns you’ll get to fiddle with in 2012.
