Starting September 14th you will no longer be able to buy T-Mobile products in RadioShack stores. Before you start thinking that will leave old RadioShack sad and lonely, the company will be picking up a new love the next day in the form of Verizon Wireless.
Jim Gooch, president and chief executive officer of RadioShack Corporation, commented on the new Verizon Wireless agreement, stating, “This is a substantial win for our customers, as this relationship with the nation’s largest wireless provider will further enhance our position as a leading multi-carrier wireless retailer. The addition of Verizon Wireless, in combination with our existing carrier partners, positions us to now offer the best assortment of carriers, rate plans, devices and accessories for every consumer need.”
The company chose not to address why it may be ditching T-Mobile; however, many speculate the breakup is due to poor sales of the carrier’s devices, resulting in low numbers for RadioShack. Of course, if AT&T’s acquisition of T-Mobile actually goes through it won’t matter- RadioShack currently carries both AT&T and Sprint handsets.
