The new MacBook Airs and OS X 10.7, “Lion,” could be arriving as soon as Wednesday, says sources over at AppleInsider. (The tipsters even dropped a time — 8:30 a.m. Eastern.) The Air is expected to arrive with Intel’s new Sandy Bridge processor, Apple’s new high-speed Thunderbolt port, backlit keyboard, solid-state drive (at 128GB or 256GB) and 4GB of RAM.
The Golden Master of Lion was seeded to developers at the beginning of this month, so it seems on track for a July debut, as promised. If it arrives alongside the Air, then chances are good that the OS might come loaded on the laptop at launch, though even if not, new Air customers will be able to snag it for free. Lion will be available via the Mac App Store only, with a regular retail price of $29.99.
