Star Wars Fleet Commander – The Game We’ll Never Play

Who wants to play a real time Star Wars strategy game on a 20 foot multitouch display that pumps out 8,160×2,304 resolution?

Arthur Nishimoto, a grad student at the University of Illinois’ Electronic Visualization Laboratory, came up with this enormous concept project to show off … okay, we have no idea what it is supposed to show off, but all we know is we want to play this game!  You can see that you mainly control capital ships such as Corellian Corvettes and Mon Calamari cruisers when the game starts, but as it progresses you can see fighters entering into the mix as well.  There does appear to be a bit of lag later on in the video as the intensity increases, but still completely payable.

While this is certainly not something that can be sold for home use, why not set it up at some place like the Star Tours attractions at the Disney parks?  People would go nuts for this.

For now, just enjoy the video and dream of having this on the wall in your house.
