Meet Dishonored: Bethesda’s Newest IP

Despite the fact that Bethesda is still busy at work promoting The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the major publisher announced that it has a new game from Arkane Studios on the way that looks quite promising based on early details. The title is a first-person, stealth-based action game called Dishonored, a game meant to test your morals with challenging and innovative gameplay mechanics.

Dishonored is the first title from Arkane since it was acquired by Bethesda parent company ZeniMax in August of last year. Studio co-founder Raphael Colantonio is on board, as is Harvey Smith, one of the developers behind Deus Ex, and Viktor Antonov, the designer who created Half-Life 2‘s City 17.

The newly-announced title is an open-ended adventure title that allows players to tackle missions in a number of different ways, from stealthily completing tasks to letting loose on hordes of enemy soldiers. How players decide to deal with problems will shape Dishonored‘s world.

Raphael Colantonio, one of the game’s directors, explained how the development studio is approaching its latest creation. “At Arkane we have a passion for creating deep, immersive game experiences,” he said. “To be able to finally share details of our project is both extremely exciting and satisfying.”

Though details are scarce at the moment, we do know that Bethesda will reveal some interesting details in the upcoming edition of Game Informer. Dishonored is slated for a 2012 release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

What do you, fellow gamers, believe? Is there room in the industry for another stealth-based title? Would you be interested in playing a game in which you do not have to fight your way out of situations, but sneak in undetected and harm nobody? Sound off in the comments below.
