In this weekly column, we’ll be selecting inexpensive, discarded titles from still playable consoles for your perusal. They may be games you’ve heard of and remember playing, or they may be games that have flown completely off of your radar. Just know that we love them and they’re available on the cheap. That’s a bonafide win/win situation.

If you have any favorite titles that you consider hidden gems, let us know in the comments below and we might feature your pick in the weekly column.

Tropico 3
Platform: PC, Xbox 360
Original Release: September 20th, 2009

If you love strategy simulation games, then you’ve probably at least heard of the Tropico franchise. This island dictatorship sim series in one that’s stood as a fan favorite ever since the original launched 10 years ago.

You’ll construct areas, manage economies, smother citizens, help or hinder industry and try to grow your island paradise in any way you like. The game comes with 15 campaign missions, but there’s tons of replay value once you consider the ability to download user-created objectives.

Add to that the awesome and historical cameos peppered into this Cold War revolutionary story and you’ve got a game that’s both fun, rewarding, addicting and eductational. The combination is, honestly, crazy.

This won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, I can guarantee that. But if you’ve ever had a hankering for a construction/politician sim, give Tropico 3 a go… you might love it.

Be sure to check out our ever-growing list of Hidden Gems.
