Last week marked a slew of gaming related guests on Jimmy Fallon’s late night show. We ran an article showing off the premiere of console gameplay for Battlefield 3 prior to this story that you’re reading now. Fallon, going back as far as last year if my memory serves me, has become a platform for premiering and showing off upcoming game tech.
The final episode of the show last week featured Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime and three pieces of Nintendo product. Fallon got to see, in order, Kid Icarus Uprising‘s augmented reality cards for the 3DS, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and the current controller and console models for the Wii U.
Fils-Aime casually stated that the Wii U would see its launch sometime after April in 2012. Of course, that could put the system out at really any time in 2012, but the specific point of noting April makes me believe the Wii U will release ahead of the holiday rush during the spring.
While I’m glad to see games grab hold of television real estate in any network format, I’m always a little weirded out when Fallon grabs the controller. Him completely spazzing out during the Skyward Sword section of the clip will illustrate exactly why it bothers me. If I wasn’t a gaming fan, I’d have no idea that Skyward Sword is set to be special because of the 1:1 swordplay.
But, more than likely, that’s just me being a finicky nerd. What do you folks think about Nintendo’s presence on Fallon?
