Commodore 64 Replicas Begin Shipping Next Week

A fairly substantial amount of my childhood was spent playing Ghostbusters on my father’s Commodore 64. Both my first video game and computer experience, the 64 will always have a special place in my heart.

Back in August of last year Commodore USA announced it would be releasing replicas of the vintage computers, with souped up specs to make them actually useful today.

Featuring an exact replica of the original beige chassis Commodore C64, this new addition to our lineup will include an Intel Atom 525 CPU with NVIDIA Ion2 graphics, 4GB DDR3 memory, 1TB Hdd, HDMI, DVD/CD optical drive (Blu-ray optional), dual-link DVI, six USB ports, integrated 802.11n WiFi, bluetooth and a 6-in-1 media card reader.

Post announcement the company has yet to ship any of the updated computers. This week it indicated that preorders are going to start going out next week (You can still order one of the computers from Commodore’s site BTW). It also released this video showing off the new Commodore USA Facility in Ft. Lauderdale. Complete with some teaser video of the new computers in production.

Anyone else a Commodore fan? Anyone have a preorder in for one of the machines?
