1,500 People Invite Themselves via Facebook To A Birthday Celebration

Do you always mark events you create on Facebook to private? You might want to start. One teen in Germany accidentally invited the world to her 16th birthday party when she didn’t click the “private” box on the invitation. Her party event went viral on the site, ultimately ending in close to 15,000 guests RSVPing plans to attend the event.

Despite public announcements the party had been cancelled, over 1,500 people showed up to the event causing the teen to actually flee from her own birthday party. 100 police officers eventually broke up the celebration, putting out two fires and detaining 10 people in the process.

A police spokesperson described the event later as “sheer insanity but mostly peaceful.”

Do you always remember to set your Facebook events to private? Have you ever created a Facebook event where more people have shown up that anticipated?
