Nintendo Celebrates Zelda’s 25th Anniversary with Multiple Titles

Accompanied by a full orchestra, Shigeru Miyamoto unveiled the 25th Anniversary celebration of the NES release of The Legend of Zelda. To commemorate the franchise, each of Nintendo’s platforms will get in on the celebration.

Starting today, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will be added to the newly launched 3DS eShop. It will be followed next week by The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. In September, the DSi will receive The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords as a free download.

Miyamoto also announced that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is slated to hit store shelves this holiday season. Releasing alongside the much-anticipated game, Nintendo will be releasing a special Zelda themed golden Wii controller that will be sold separately.

The Legend of Zelda Symphony concerts will also begin touring the country this year showcasing orchestrated classical Zelda music. Miyamoto did say at the beginning of the press event, “Music is an indispensable piece of The Legend of Zelda franchise, and to commemorate that we cannot think of a better way than having live concerts in every available region.”
