In Mass Effect 3, an ancient alien race known only as “Reapers”, has launched an all-out invasion of the galaxy, leaving nothing but a trail of destruction in their wake. Earth has been taken, the galaxy is on the verge of total annihilation, and you are the only one who can stop them. The price of failure is extinction. Players step into the shoes of Commander Shepard, leading the counter-assault to take it back.
“With Mass Effect 3, we are delivering blockbuster action and heart-wrenching emotion on a scale that far exceeds anything we’ve ever done before,” said Casey Hudson, Executive Producer of the Mass Effect series. “This is an all-out galactic war and how you choose to lead and play will ultimately determine how – and if – you can save the galaxy.”
The company was able to convey the game’s sheer scale in a gameplay demonstration during EA’s press event. In the demo, Shepard is storming a Reaper base. Players are forced to call in overhead support before more enemies drop in. The fight continues, displaying the emotional struggle that all of the characters must go through, before abruptly ending in the middle of all of the action.
BioWare played the first gameplay trailer for the highly-anticipated title, displaying various powers, weapons, and allies. The Omni-Blade is shows and Shepard uses it against an enemy. Combat is more fluid than Mass Effect 3‘s predecessor, and looks to be insane fun.
In addition to all of these gameplay announcements, BioWare announced that Mass Effect 3 will arrive at retailers worldwide beginning March 6, 2012.
