To ensure that Sony’s next-generation PlayStation Portable has a impressive title available at launch, Sony is adapting one of its most popular franchises to fit in your pocket. This hallmark game finally has a name, Uncharted: Golden Abyss.
Currently being developed by Sony Bend, Uncharted: Golden Abyss takes place before the events of the PlayStation 3’s acclaimed title, Drake’s Fortune. Though Naughty Dog has not been involved in the execution of this title, the Oregon-based studio is more than qualified to build , having worked on the Syphon Filter series as well as Resistance Retribution.
Golden Abyss is written by Sony Bend’s John Garvin alongside Amy Hennig, Naughty Dog’s chief creative director. The story reportedly has nearly two hours of cut-scenes, with performances captured at Naughty Dog’s studios. It will be a standalone story that will feature Nathan Drake, who is on the trail of a missing expedition and in search of a mythical lost city.
For the most part, the gameplay remains faithful to the third-person action-adventure hybrid of the PS3 games, occasionally throwing in sections that utilize some of the NGP’s unique hardware attributes, such as its touchscreen, touch pad, and motion controls.
