New Modern Warfare 3 Leak Reveals Team Perks, No Dedicated Servers

Kotaku has received yet another sizable leak concerning Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. This time the information from their inside sources is all about the multiplayer aspect of Activision‘s yearly FPS titan. We’re just covering some of the more tangible pieces of what’s considered an unofficial rumor, so if you want the full scoop be sure the head over to Kotaku’s article.

Part of this large leak concerns the perk system within Modern Warfare 3. If you’re new to the Call of Duty franchise, for some reason, know that the perks you’re seeing in a lot of today’s shooters can largely be traced back to the original Modern Warfare. While the perk system has spread rampantly throughout the shooter world, most would attribute it’s birth to Infinity Ward.

It’s be news, then, that Sledgehammer Games and Infinity Ward are changing the system a bit to make it more involved and intense. Kotaku has it that this year’s Call of Duty will feature both new individual perks and the entirely new team perk system. Here’s the list of new perks that their sources have dished up:

Team Perks

While we don’t know the total number of team perks coming to Modern Warfare 3, we have been told four of them:

Stopping Power: Increased bullet damage.
Blast Shield: Unclear
Health Regen: Regenerate health over time.
Stun Protection: Prevent stunning from flash grenades.

Individual Perks

Blind Eye: This makes you immune to computer-controlled and player-controlled killstreaks. The pro version makes your launchers lock on faster and gives you extra bullet damage to vehicles.
Assassin: This makes you immune to UAV, thermal, and heartbeat sensors. The pro version also makes you immune to CUAV, EMP and no longer shows your name in red or the crosshair in red when you’re targeted.
Point Guard: Every two assists count as a kill towards your killstreak.
Dead Silence: You make no noise.
Recon: Gives you a special kind of radar to spot enemies, most likely. We’re not sure on this one.

While the individual perks don’t seem too incredible just yet, the notion of perks that can assist an entire team rather than just one player is definitely new to Call of Duty. If this rumor rings true, we’re excited to see how it’s implemented.

The bad news, as Kotaku wraps their leak up with, is that their sources have indicated that Modern Warfare 3 will not feature dedicated servers. The same thing happened with Modern Warfare 2, and it left gamers with a bad taste in their mouths. We’ll see how the community reacts to this decision again.

We’ll have more on Modern Warfare 3 as it comes.
