If you live in the U.S., near a Best Buy and own a Nintendo 3DS, you may soon be able to carry your handheld to your local store in order to take advantage of free Wi-Fi and SpotPass content. Nintendo announced today that it has come together with the retailer to provide custom content to 3DS owners as they visit the stores.

Over 1,000 Best Buy locations across the United States will feature “cutsomized, automatic wireless access” for the Nintendo 3DSs that are carried into the stores. In the press release that brought news of this partnership, Nintendo explains that users will be able to use their local Best Buys as portals to access the online content within the 3DS software suite. So, if you’re looking for a place to hang out and download 3DS games once Nintendo’s eShop launches, head to Best Buy …

… and not your local library or coffee shop.

Best Buy Senrio Vice President of Entertainment Chris Homeister discusses the nature and purpose of the free Wi-fi and SpotPass access.

We want our customers to fully tap into the potential of their Nintendo 3DS device, so we’re pleased to offer free access to special Wi-Fi and SpotPass content in-store…As a retail partner for SpotPass, this is another way that we’re delivering best-in-class gaming experiences at our stores across the country.

Customers will also be able to download and receive “exclusive offers as well as additional entertainment content such as gaming extras and movie trailers.” No word yet on what, exactly, those exclusive offers will entail.

Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime expands on the Best Buy partnership.

Nintendo 3DS turns the page in portable gaming not just because of the stunning, glasses-free 3D visuals, but also in the way it keeps people connected to their friends, their games and their world…Best Buy provides a firsthand look at the platform with experts to help people understand everything it offers.

Speak up 3DS owners, will you carry your handheld into Best Buys specifically for these offerings?
