Verizon HTC Trophy Landing Today? (Spotted on Best Buy Again)

Will Verizon get the HTC Trophy today? That has been the subject of rumors buzzing around the webs for a while now. Usually rumors reach a fever pitch right before a launch, and lately this smartphone has been making cameos all over the webs.

Ads for the phone, which still has yet to land Stateside, popped up on Xbox 360 homescreens. Meanwhile, the device showed up on Best Buy‘s website again, with its latest appearance showing up sans product image. It’s tagged with a different model number (now MWP6985VW, previously MWP6905VW), and the site now allows the item to be placed in a shopping cart. (The first time, it showed none in stock.) The product page lists the same price though: $599.99 without contract. Whether that’s real or just a placeholder, no one really knows yet.

The page also features specs, including:

  • Windows Phone 7.0 operating system
  • Bluetooth compatibility
  • 3.8″ WVGA TFT-LCD touchscreen with 480×800 pixels
  • MicroSD card slot
  • 5MP camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • Full QWERTY keyboard

What’s not listed, but expected, is a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 8 GB storage, 512MB (ROM), 576 MB (RAM), 720p HD vid capture and XBOX Live support, like the European version. Whether this will be a world-mode GSM/CDMA phone has not been confirmed.

A dummy of the handset was also spotted at the retail store recently, and some Verizon-logoed press images made its way onto the webs, courtesy of PocketNow (scroll to the bottom). And all this since its appearance on Verizon’s leaked road map in March.

So it’s not a matter of if, but when. Could it be today, as the rumors have been suggesting? Verizon hasn’t made a peep yet, but if it does, then HTC Trophy could be the carrier’s first WinPho7 phone. Sure, you could say Big Red is arriving a bit late to the party, considering the other major carriers all have WP7 offerings, but it could wind up with an embarrassment of riches — the HTC 7 Pro is rumored to be arriving on Verizon Wireless as well. As for which one will land first, that still seems to be anybody’s guess for now.

WP7 hopefuls on Verizon, which handset are you leaning toward? The Trophy or the HTC 7 Pro? Let us know what your plans are in the comments.
