Microsoft to Show Off Windows Phone 7 “Mango” at VIP Event

Microsoft has announced that it will officially show off the “Mango” WinPho update for analysts and members of the media this month — May 24, to be exact, at a VIP event to be held in New York. Execs had promised that the developer tools for Mango, aka Windows Phone 7.5, would be available this month, so they’re expected to be released at the event as well (though the company wouldn’t confirm at this time).

This means, if all goes well, consumers should start seeing it unleashed on new WinPho handsets on or before the red hot holiday shopping season, with current users getting it by the end of the year.

So is Mango going to give users a delicious, passionfruit-y cocktail of enhancements? Well, we’ll let you decide. Expected features include a possible beta marketplace application, turn-by-turn navigation, integrated Bing Video and Bing Audio, voice search features and SMS dictation, as well as an HTML5-supporting IE 9 browser, third-party app multitasking, and built-in Twitter and Windows Live Messenger.

Are you a WinPho user? Now that you finally got copy/paste, what other features are you most anticipating in this update? If you’re not a WP user, what enhancements would tempt you? Weigh in below.
