Netflix Picks Up Streaming Rights to All Star Trek TV Series

Jean Luc PicardNetflix Watch Instantly is about to be invaded by 29 seasons worth of Star Trek thanks to the recent deal struck with CBS.

While some of the promised CBS shows such as Twin Peaks have already been appearing on the service, there was no word when the venerable Star Trek franchise would appear.  TrekMovie contacted Nerflix for an answer, and it seems that the original series, The Next Generation, Voyager and Enterprise will begin streaming in July, and Deep Space Nine will begin in Oct.

Currently the agreement is good for two years on all of the series with an option to extend it for another two.  This will be the first time any of the series will be streamed commercial free, and the first time they will be available digitally for “free”.  (as opposed to buying episodes from iTunes)

Even though this is part of a bulk deal, this is a heck of a score for Watch Instantly subscribers.  There are few series in the history of television as iconic as the Star Trek brand, and the sheer volume of content will be a welcome addition.

This is a non-exclusive deal, so there is every chance that these could show up elsewhere, but for now it will just be Netflix.

What do you think?  Will 29  seasons worth of Star Trek keep you interested in Watch Instantly?
