Google Talk Guru Works As Your Own Personal Search Guru

by Emily Price | March 30, 2011March 30, 2011 10:00 am PDT

Yesterday Google quietly launched Google Talk Guru. The service works with Google Talk and allows you to do some things you might otherwise do through the traditional search client from the chat client instead. For instance you can send the Guru “weather New York” to find out what the weather is like in New York right now, or ask to calculate what 412 * 32 is.

The Guru is free to use, and can be accessed by adding guru@googlelabs.com to your existing list of contacts in Google Talk.

Some things you can search with the Guru:

Sport scores: score arsenal
Weather: weather Nairobi
Calculate: 123 * 45
Currency: 120 KES to USD
Definition: define laptop
Translation: translate earth to French
Web result: web Mount Kenya
Help: help translate

As someone who has four thousand windows open all the time, I really like the idea of being able to do some simple searches from Google Talk rather than having to open up yet another tab or window.

What do you think? Can you see yourself using Google Talk Guru?
