Verizon Waiving Xoom and Galaxy Tab Activation Fees

and Galaxy Tablets starting March 1. Big Red currently charges a $35 activation fee per tablet when you start service. MobileBurn reportedly received an email from Verizon today indicating that it would be waiving those fees for a limited time only. Fees are waived retroactively, so if you activated a tablet on March 1 or after, you should receive a $35 credit.

The iPad 2 is also available on Verizon, but does not have an activation fee associated with it. The move to drop the fee may be in part to make those tablets more competitive with the iPad 2. We’ve reached out to Verizon for a comment on why they chose to waive the fees, and how long that decision will remain in effect. We’ll let you know when we hear back.

What do you think about Verizon waiving the Xoom and Galaxy Tab activation fees? Sure no one is going to complain about not having to pay fees, but is it fair that Verizon charges them in the first place?
