IGN has just released the world’s first look at the gameplay in Batman: Arkham City. Those of you that played Arkham Asylum may want to sit down, the game looks incredible.
Rocksteady’s follow-up to what some would argue is the best licensed game of all time is shaping up to be an exercise in brilliance. Bats is off the island of Arkham and into a section of Gotham that makes use of new spaces and great heights. Fans will catch a glimpse of some new game mechanics, the reappearance of Batman’s detective vision, Catwoman, Harvey Dent, Bats clinging to the underside of a helicopter and much more.
Both Mark Hamil and Kevin Conroy will be reprising their roles here as The Joker and Batman. Moreover, Paul Dini has penned the script for the title again. Dini, for those that are unaware, is considered one of the great minds behind the Batman universe. His love of the lore and characters within the franchise is practically unrivaled. And that probably explains why the onset of this trailer features a question that writers of Batman have been tugging at for years now; would there be crime without Batman?
Arkham City promises to be dark, twisted and brutal. Gamers should expect a chance to dive deeper into Bruce Wayne’s psyche and learn even more about the Caped Crusader and his mind than they did in Arkham Asylum. Rocksteady continues to make fans happy.
Batman: Arkham City is set to release on October 18th, 2011 for the 360, PS3 and PC platforms. Go ahead, jot this one down as one of my most anticipated titles for an epic calendar year of gaming.
