First Screens of Mario for 3DS

GDC is upon us already and Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s President, presented his keynote today. While most of the internet was buzzing about the iPad 2 event, the core of the gaming world was in awe of a brand new Mario for Nintendo’s 3DS.

The game is coming, we’ve known that for months now. But seeing screens validates this title’s proximity. Iwata confirmed that the Super Mario Galaxy team is working on this project. Other details were completely sparse, but Nintendo will be announcing more about the title at this year’s E3.

The temporary logo for the game also included an interesting item of note. Mario’s racoon tail was a piece of the logo; could we be seeing a return of the Tanooki Suit? Nerds, myself included, will rejoice if that’s the case.

We’ll have more on Super Mario Bros. 3DS as it becomes available.

UPDATE: Screenshot of the aforementioned logo courtesy of the fine folks at Kotaku.
