Anxiously awaiting the day that you can use your phone as your wallet? That day may be coming sooner than you think. Bank of America is test driving a Mobile Wallet program with NFC-capable BlackBerry smartphones.

According to Boy Genius, the trial program is only available to a select group of BlackBerry customers. Customers are sent an invitation to participate, and if they agree are sent a new battery cover and microSD card so they can get in on the trial.

The project is currently only available to BlackBerry Curve 8520 and 8530; BlackBerry Bold 9000, 9650 and 9700; and BlackBerry Tour 9630 owners. Payments can be made using the BlackBerrys’ anywhere Mastercard’s PayPass is accepted.

Were any of you invited to take part in the program? What do you think about using your phone as a virtual wallet? Cool? Or would you rather hang on to your traditional plastic cards?
