MobileMe Preparing For Revamp

In case you needed a little more proof that Apple is looking to change MobileMe – now you can’t buy it. Apple has discontinued the retail box of Mobile Me starting yesterday, removing it from its online store, and no longer sending units in retail locations.

Apple Insider is reporting that the Single User version of the product as well as the Family Pack have both been declared “End of Life” by Apple. Apple has been rumored to be turning MobileMe into a free cloud service. Apple already has a press event scheduled for next Wednesday. While the event is expected to be iPad 2-focused, it wouldn’t be entirely out of the question for Apple to announce changes to the MobileMe service at the same time.

Apple executives mentioned at a shareholders meeting earlier this week that a new NC-based data center would be used for iTunes and MobileMe services.

What sorts of changes do you think are coming to MobileMe?
