The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has to be the worst kept secret around, and the leak of a commercial doesn’t help.
The awkwardly named Sony Ericsson Xperia Play saw its first bit of details leak to the web before Sony’s official NGP press conference unveiling a little more than a week ago. The phone was not featured in any official announcements and its presence was pushed into the background as the proper successor to the PSP stormed the net.
Now, the commercial that’s found its way to the internet above features back-alley surgery, the Android Droid and the Xperia Play. Viewers catch a quick glimpse of a few games in action before the whole the wraps. It’s a reveal, it’s a tease and it’s probably not that exciting when compared to the NGP itself.
Still, this is an Android phone with downgraded PSP controls… there are bound to be some customers looking to step up to more tactile gaming on their mobile devices, and this may be their gateway to that world.
In hindsight of the NGP press conference, it’s obvious that the Xperia Play is simply a platform designed with Sony’s PlayStation Suite in mind. The Suite is basically a PlayStation store built for devices running Anroid 2.3. The Xperia Play features the physical controls needed to take the best advantage of the upcoming software.
But will consumers bite? Is this device registering on your radar?
