Magicka saw release across several marketplaces for the PC on Jan. 25th. By Jan. 26th, the title had sold more than 30,000 copies and took top spot on Steam. Attribute the success to the buzz coming from the game, the cheap entry fee of $9.99 and the actually quality of the product… though some offer that the quality bits are up for argument.
Paradox Interactive, the publishers behind the product, dropped a press release Wednesday morning stating the sales figures detailed above. They also promised that this early success meant that the developers would be hard at work fixing what, exactly is griefing new fans. According to some players, the game is all sorts of buggy. Those that complain are typically quick to point out that they’re having a blast when Magicka isn’t going all whacky on them.
Arrowhead Games, according to Paradox Interactive, are already hard at work ridding the game of as many bugs as possible. They’ve pledged to keep the lines of communication between fans and developers open, and they’re looking to make Magicka as good as it can possibly be.

The reception for Magicka has been better than we dared to hope, watching the numerous YouTube clips of gamers and editors worldwide laughing themselves senseless as they misfire spells left and right as well as the comments on twitter and forums show us people really get the humor and the idea behind Magicka…Singleplayer and LAN is what most people are currently playing but updating the multiplayer lobby and continuously improving the game is our top priority.
Good humored, well supported and affordably priced? Magicka has charmed its way into the hearts of more than 30,000 gamers in a single day, but for obviously good reasons.
Let’s hope the game gets the work load it deserves and eventually sees release on the Mac. According to Paradox Interactive, however, there are currently no plans to put this out for Apple users. Dangit.
