T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant Units Finally Receiving Android 2.2

T-Mobile has finally released Android 2.2 Froyo for Samsung Vibrant handsets, the long awaited update that has been promised since the phone was first released.

Ever since the Samsung Vibrant was released on T-Mobile in the summer of 2010 with Android 2.1 Eclair installed, there has been a promise that Android 2.2 Froyo would be released as an update.  After numerous false dates having come and gone, the update has finally arrived, but it is difficult to ignore the curious timing.

Earlier this week we wrote an article that asked why haven’t Samsung phones been receiving Android 2.2 updates?  While there has been a lot of speculation about Samsung requesting money from carriers for updates, the company denied those allegations in a statement released later in the week.

No. Samsung is not charging carriers for Froyo updates to Galaxy S. We hope to have more detail on status shortly. Promise!

It’s hard to ignore the fact, however, that the week the company received a lot of negative press about its handling of Android 2.2, suddenly a long awaited update arrives?  It has to be a complete coincidence and not a possible reaction to all of those negative comments, right?

For those of you who are anxious to get the update, it is sadly not an Over the Air (OTA) update, and you will need to connect your phone to your computer via the Kies Mini updater.  Not exactly as smooth or seamless as just doing everything from your phone, but at least you’re finally getting the update you’ve been waiting so long for.

While we highly doubt that Samsung will ever admit to this update coming out due to the public pressure, it doesn’t really matter in the end.  The update is out for those who need it, and for those of you who are still waiting, at least you have a bit more hope now that it will get to you eventually.

What say you?  Did Samsung give into public pressure to finally release this update?
