Final Fantasy XIII-2 Gets Announced For 2011 Release

Square Enix, the company behind the hugely popular Final Fantasy series, has announced a direct sequel to last year’s Final Fantasy XIII, the aptly named Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Not much is known about this sequel as of yet except that Lightning returns as the main character.  Judging by her looks, length of hair and so on, it’s been a few years since the last game, and she appears to have a new arch-nemesis that we know nothing about as of yet.  Square Enix did confirm she would be joined by some new characters this time, but no word on if that precluded others from the first game returning.

Supposedly the game will feature a revamped fighting system, but no word if it will break with the linear storytelling style that some disliked in the last game.

It’s going to be a big year for Final Fantasy fans as Final Fantasy Type-0 has been announced for release this summer for the PlayStation Portable.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be available in winter 2011 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in Japan, but no word on what the release date may be around the rest of the world yet.

What say you?  Excited for another adventure with Lightning?
