User Submitted: Flipboard – Your social gateway to the Internet

One of the great things about the iPad is that there are apps that escalate the experience to a whole new dimension. One of those in particular is  Flipboard, available from the App Store for free, and an app I have personally gained a huge amount of usage from. I use it daily to access Facebook, Twitter and various feeds, including, of course, TechnoBuffalo. What makes it even better is that the developers are constantly adding to it and making it more functional. One of the more recent updates, for example, included the addition of the Google Reader to the application.

So, what exactly does this app do? Well, when you first open it up and connect it to your feeds you are greeted with pictures from people on your Facebook or Twitter feeds. A simple swipe motion on the screen flips over the page and you get a nice and simple, yet effective, set of tiles. Each tile is for a corresponding feed. So, one tile could be for your Facebook, another for Twitter and then you can set up various RSS feeds from sites and people on your Twitter timeline.

Pressing the tile takes you into a specific feed of your choice and turns it into a fantastic looking magazine style. Again a swipe motion with your finger will flip you through pages and further through the feed and down your timeline. Pressing on any individual status, tweet or rss post will allow you to do a variety of things such as retweet, email and other various options are available. You can also compose status updates and tweets, videos and pictures are viewable right inside the app itself.

Overall a fantastic app, well worth a download and I would highly recommend it to anyone.  It is one of the best apps I have had the pleasure of using since I bought an iPad, and one I will continue to use for quite some time.
